What is Agadir known for? Agadir is a combination of traditional and modern, known as a port city and home to the largest souk in Morocco. There are beautiful, golden sandy beaches that line its shores, perfect for a beach getaway with a long promenade to take a stroll or bike ride.
Agadir is considered the regional capital of Morocco and lies to the south of the Atlas Mountains. It is the shortened version of the Berber word “Agadir n Irir” which means, the fortified granary.

Modern Standard Arabic
The two official languages are Modern Standard Arabic and Amazigh (Berber). Amazigh comes in three regional dialects and the one spoken by locals in Agadir is Tachalhit. Modern Standard Arabic is used in newspapers and TV, but isn't used in conversation, rather a local dialect called Darija.
I recently travelled to Agadir for a short break. I am no stranger to Morocco having been to Marrakech before but this place opened my eyes to what i believe is another aspect of this busy Moroccan city. The people here will pester you endlessly and especially the children if they believe you will give them money.
Is water safe to drink in Morocco? Generally speaking, it's best to drink filtered water when travelling in Morocco. Most locals will drink tap water, and some travellers may take the risk, but you wouldn't want a stomach bug to stop you from having a good time in a new country.
The basics
While Agadir is a popular surfing destination, Agadir Beach itself is shallow with only gentle waves. During the summer season, lifeguards operate a system of flags, indicating where it is safe to swim: Despite appearances, the undertow can be strong.
Tap water is perfectly safe. As for street food places or "snacks", as long as you see loads of moroccans eating at them you'll be fine and the quality would be good
